Ever since I can remember, I have been passionate about fishing. I was fortunate enough to have an amazing dad, who shared his love of fishing with me and taught me how to fish at a very young age. I grew up near Lafayette, Indiana, fished every body of water I could find in that area, from farm ponds, and lakes to warm-water streams and rivers. I searched for bluegill, largemouth, and smallmouth bass, catfish, and even carp. They provided me with all the challenge and sport I ever wanted as a kid. At the age of 5, I was introduced to the fly-rod and enjoyed the challenge of throwing the line around everywhere. I fished primarily with spinning gear until about the age of 16. At that time, no one besides my dad fly-fished that I had heard of. We didn’t have cable, and Bill Dance was about the only fishing show on T.V. that I could watch. I began to really enjoy catching fish on flies more than any other method of fishing.
I have fished from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico, from the Pacific to the Atlantic, and hooked and landed over 100 different species on fly. The smallmouth bass is my favorite fish to catch on fly. It was almost designed with the fly-fisher in mind. Once you hook one, I can almost guarantee, you will understand why. They just hit, fight, and jump different than any other freshwater fish in our area.
I tie all of my own flies and also build fly rods in the winter months. Above all, I am a teacher. I currently teach 7th and 8th grade science in the Ann Arbor School District and enjoy my summers fishing and guiding. I am a graduate of the Rivers Outdoor Adventures Guiding School in New Ringgold, PA and hold an Inland Waters Passenger Vessel Pilot License for the State of Michigan.
My main goal as your guide, is to provide you with the best possible experience while fishing and show you new things about our sport and so you may learn new techniques that have proven over time to be triggers that can cause fish to eat. My hope is to share my knowledge and experience with you to make you a better angler. Even though my passion is fly-fishing, I am equally comfortable with spinning gear. Whether you are interested in fly gear or conventional gear, I can provide you with an experience and lessons you can take with you for the rest of your life.
